The Calgary Flames will try and stop a 3 game skid that started with a lackluster effort in Carolina on January 24th. The Flames are dangerously close to falling out the playoff race for good and a win tonight would do wonders for getting the Flames back on track. The good news is the Flames are 26-6-2 against the Hurricanes at the Saddledome over the years and are averaging 4.7 GF per game and giving up 2.9 GA over that span. The last time these two laced them up against each other the Flames were a no show, losing 5-2. The Flames would like to earn the season split tonight and continue their dominance over Carolina at home. Carolina has other plans though as they have caught fire recently and find themselves in 6th place in the crowded East playoff race, Helping the Flames tonight will be Micheal Ferland’s return, but they are still without Dennis Wideman who awaits his fate from his cross checking of an official incident back on January 27th. Here’s how the teams match up:

Calgary Flames Carolina Hurricanes
21-24-3 Record 23-20-8
45 Points 54
6th Pacific Division 5th Metropolitan
11th West Conference 6th East

125 Goals For 123
144 Goals Against 134

Ramo (.910) SV % Ward (.905)
30th (13.5%) PP 25th (16.7%)
29th (75.7%) PK 10th (82.5)

The Flames last took to the ice on January 27th and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Predators. Mark Giordano scored the Flames only goal in that contest, giving him 18 points in his last 19 games. This game will be remembered, however, for Dennis Wideman’s cross check on linesman Don Henderson. Here’s the highlights:

The Hurricanes cruised into the All Star break with a 5-0 smackdown of the Chicago Blackhawks. Riley Nash put two in the net and Cam Ward stopped all 26 shots he faced on the way to a shut out. Here’s the highlights:
