Friday Fan Poll: Just Days to the Deadline

With the deadline just days away, armchair GM's and real GM's are readying for the weekend ahead.

Last Week's Results: Like this week, last week was all about the upcoming trade deadline. Since that time the Flames acquired Hunter Shinkaruk in exchange for Markus Granlund. The question asked what the Flames should be searching for in return for their players here at the deadline. 37% responded with a #1 goalie, while 27% said draft picks, I'm hoping that they can pull off both over the next few days.

Week 8: Trade Deadline Looms

Following Thursday night's OTL to the Islanders, the Flames have only one game remaining prior to Monday's trade deadline. The Flames still have a few days to make their decisions but they're definitely a seller at this point and released a list of moveable names earlier this week.

Those names included Kris Russell, Jiri Hudler, Joe Colborne, Josh Jooris, Jonas Hiller, and David Jones. Each of these players have expiring contracts at the end of the season with Colborne and Jooris both having RFA status. The rest are UFA meaning they're free to leave for any other team. For a great article on these players from one of our writers, click here.

The number one priority for the Flames is to avoid the Mike Cammalleri situation from a couple years ago where he was retained past the deadline and ended up going to the Devils for nothing in free agency.

The first real domino in the leadup to the trade deadline fell on Thursday night with the Jets sending Andrew Ladd to the Blackhawks for Marko Dano, a 1st round pick, and a conditional 3rd round pick if the Hawks win the cup this year.  This will set the bar for all the rental players over the next few days, in particular the forwards and Jiri Hudler. Personally I'd be thrilled to see Hudler net a 2nd and a prospect or something like that.

For this week's question, I'm asking "Which player do you think is the best combination of most important and most likely to move?"

Remember to vote and suggest questions for the future, and remember to cheer on the Flames down the final stretch of the season!
