Gamethread: Calgary Flames vs Vancouver Canucks, Flames can’t seem to catch a break

This isn't exactly the "break" the Flames were hoping for in their efforts to get on a winning streak.

Because things can never come easy to the Calgary Flames, today there was another injury listed and another call-up.

Ladislav Smid may not be literally “broken” but he was placed on the IR today with an upper body injury that happened in the Flames last game at home against the Wild. He left in the second period and didn’t return.

In his place, Tyler Wotherspoon was called up to defend the Flames blue line alongside Jakub Nakladal (who, coincidentally, was recently called up as well to fill in for Dennis Wideman while Wideman serves his suspension for hitting a ref.)

Tonight’s projected lineups have changed a bit as Sam Bennett had been placed at center for the first time in 2016 between Michael Ferland and Josh Jooris. As well, Lance Bouma slots back into the fourth line with Matt Stajan and David Jones.

Jonas Hiller gets another start in net despite his less than stellar outings lately. Could the organization be showcasing him?

My Opinion: The Flames should just sit all the potential trade baits and call up their AHL team – and, at this rate, I'm almost convinced that's what they're doing. We'll have to wait and see what the next few weeks bring in lineup changes.
