Ladislav Smid is out after sustaining an upper body injury.

The injury bug has been hurting the Flames lately and you can add another name to that list: Ladislav Smid. The Flames announced today that veteran defenceman Ladislav Smid will be placed on injured reserve. Smid left the game during the Flames 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild and never came back to the ice. He’s reported to be out a minimum of 3 games with the undisclosed upper body injury. Smid has seen his playing time increase dramatically since Dennis Wideman’s suspension and this injury leaves the Flames defence very thin.

In the interim, the Flames have called up defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon from Stockton to take Smid’s place in the lineup. He will pair with Jakub Nakladal tonight against the Vancouver Canucks.
