Stockton Sunday: Wednesday Edition

Welcome to the last Stockton Sunday of the 2016 calendar year, and it isn’t even Sunday. We decided to push back this week’s edition to today since it wouldn’t have made sense to write about a single game on Sunday, which was also Christmas Day.

The Heat had a rough couple of games that sandwiched their Christmas break, dropping two games in San Jose and falling out of top spot in the Pacific Division, although only by a .001 pts%. (Tuscon 0.674, Stockton 0.673, Ontario 0.673).

The Heat play three pivotal games this week against the two teams around them in the division.

Tuesday Dec 20th: Stockton Heat 3 @ San Jose Barracuda (San Jose) 6

The Heat fell behind two goals early and continually fought back three separate times to a one goal deficit but could never tie the game up before the Barracuda got two late goals to seal the win. Brandon Bollig, Mike Angelidis, and Mark Jankowski scored in the loss while Jon Gillies gave up five goals on 43 shots.

Monday Dec 26th: Stockton Heat 3 @ San Jose Barracuda 4 (OT)

In a similar fashion to the previous game, the Heat fell behind a couple goals early but this time managed to battle back and force overtime before ultimately losing in the extra frame. The Heat had goals from Mark Jankowski, Morgan Klimchuk, and Austin Carroll, while David Rittich made 26 saves on 30 shots.

The Heat have now finished their season-long seven game road trip with a record of 4-2-1 and sit at 16-7-3 on the season. They have fallen to second in the Pacific Division, which speaks more to the hot stretches that Tuscon and Ontario have had over the last week or so.

As already mentioned, with two games against Ontario, and one against Tuscon, this should be a very interesting short week for Stockton. We’ll be back again on our regular Sunday schedule to let you know how the Heat did.
