7 Inferno Players Named to All-Star Game and 2 More Wins

The Calgary Inferno continue to heat things up in the CWHL

Seven members of the Calgary Inferno have been named to the 2017 CWHL All-Star Game in Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on Saturday, February 11. They are Emerance Maschmeyer in goal, Meaghan Mikkelson and Katelyn Gosling on defense and forwards Brianne Jenner, Jill Saulnier, Haley Irwin and Rebecca Johnston.

The Calgary Inferno also chalked up two more wins over the weekend as they dumped the Toronto Furies by scores of 5-1 on Saturday and 3-1 on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Inferno didn’t open the scoring until 14:26 of the 2nd period when Bailey Bram made it a 1-0 game with assists from Rhianna Kurio and Katelyn Gosling. Then just twenty-nine seconds into the 3rd period, Bram scored her 2nd of the game and 7th of the season with Sarah Davis getting the lone assist. Then just over thirty seconds later, Iya Gavrilova made it a 3-0 game with assists from Brittany Esposito and Louise Warren. The Furies would finally get their lone tally of the game less than thirty seconds later, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Iya Gavrilova would then score her 2nd of the game, chasing Furies goalie Christina Kessler from the game at 5:36 of the 3rd. Assists went to Louise Warren and Brittany Esposito. Sarah Davis would cap off the scoring unassisted at 12:51 of the 3rd making the final 5-1 in favour of the Inferno. Delayne Brian stopped 22 of 23 shots for her 5th win of the season.

On Sunday, Bailey Bram opened the scoring for the 2nd game in a row at 12:53 of the 1st period with the lone assist going to Sarah Davis to make it 1-0. The two hooked up again just thirty seconds into the 2nd period when Bram set up Davis to make it a 2-0 game. The Furies cut the lead in half at the 5:53 mark of the 2nd period but Louise Warren would get the insurance marker and game-winner, scoring into the empty net with 1:30 left in the game. The assist went to Jessica Campbell. Emerance Maschmeyer stopped 23 of 24 shots to collect her 3rd win of the season.

The Inferno have 12 wins and 2 losses after 14 games this season and are in 1st place in the CWHL with 24 points.

Brianne Jenner and Bailey Bram are leading the team scoring with 12 points each. Jill Saulnier is 3rd in team scoring with 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points in 12 games.

Goaltender Delayne Brian leads the team with 5 wins (2nd in the CWHL) and Bryan also leads the team and the CWHL with a 1.58 goals against average. Emerance Maschmeyer leads the team with a save percentage of 0.941 (1st in the CWHL).

The Inferno now take a break for the holidays and don’t return to action until January 7th, when they will host the Brampton Thunder for back to back games. Game times are Saturday, January 7th @ 9:45pm EST/7:45pm MST and Sunday, January 8th @ 10:00am EST/12:00pm MST.
