Inferno Split a Pair in Montreal

Calgary Inferno split a pair of weekend games against Les Canadiennes Montreal.

It’s been a long two weeks since our last Calgary Inferno update due to a break in the action but the ladies returned to action Saturday and Sunday for a two-game set in Montreal against Les Canadiennes Montreal. The Inferno split the two games, losing on Saturday 1-0 and then winning Sunday 5-3.

On Saturday, the Inferno got a great performance out of goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer, who was the 2nd star of the game, as she stopped 31 of 32 shots. But the shot that beat her at 11:52 of the 1st period was all Montreal needed as the Inferno couldn’t solve Montreal goalie Charline Labonte.

Game two on Sunday was pretty much the same game but with a totally opposite result. Shots on goal were almost identical to Saturday’s game, but the Inferno capitalized on more chances this time. Bailey Bram opened the scoring at the 6:38 mark of the 1st period with assists from Haley Irwin and Rebecca Johnston. Montreal tied the game 1-1 just past the midway point of the 1st period and then Blayre Turnbull scored an unassisted goal at 14:32 of the 1st to give the Inferno the lead once again. Montreal tied the game again, making it 2-2 at 8:36 of the 2nd period. Just under five minutes later, Bailey Bram scored her 2nd goal of the game and 5th of the season to make it 3-2. Brigette Lacquette scored the eventual game-winning goal at 17:47 of the 2nd period assisted by Katelyn Gosling and Sarah Davis. Davis would add a goal herself just over a minute into the 3rd period, assisted by Jessica Campbell to make it a 5-2 game. Montreal would score one more goal two minutes later, but Inferno goaltender Genevieve Lacasse would shut the door stopping 31 of 34 shots for her 4th win of the season.

The Inferno have 10 wins, and 2 losses after 12 games this season and are in 2nd place in the CWHL with 20 points.

Brianne Jenner is still leading the team scoring with 6 goals and 6 assists for 12 points in 10 games which also puts her 7th in league scoring. Jill Saulnier is 2nd in team scoring and 9th in league scoring with 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points in 12 games. Rebecca Johnston is 3rd in team scoring with 3 goals and 6 assists in 10 games so far.

Goaltenders Delayne Brian and Genevieve Lacasse both have 4 wins (2nd & 3rd in the CWHL) and Bryan has a 1.72 goals against average (2nd in the CWHL). Emerance Maschmeyer leads the team with a save percentage of 0.938 (1st in the CWHL).

The Inferno now play two games in Toronto against the Toronto Furies before the Christmas break. Game times are Saturday, December 17th @ 8:00pm EST/6:00pm MST and Sunday, December 18th @ 1:00pm EST/11:00am MST.
