Stockton Sunday: Streak Snapped

After a couple more wins, the Heat lost on Saturday

The Heat had a decent week going 2-1, but had their four game winning streak snapped with a loss in Bakersfield.

Last Week’s Games

Wednesday: Charlotte Checkers (Carolina) 1 @ Stockton Heat 3

For the second time in eight days, the Heat hosted the Charlotte Checkers. Again, the Heat won by a margin of two goals, this time 3-1. It was a strange game in that the Heat only had 15 shots to Charlotte’s 28, but they made them count. Linden Vey had a goal and two assists, while Matt Frattin and Andrew Mangiapane both had a goal and an assist in the victory. The Heat killed 8 Checker powerplays, with huge help from David Rittich who made 27 saves as he continued his stellar play in net.

Austin Carroll scored his first of the year while Mark Jankowski, Hunter Smith, and Hunter Shinkaruk also tallied for Stockton. Jon Gillies was great making 31 saves for the shutout. The contest was the opener of a seven game in the road trip for the Heat.

Saturday: Stockton Heat 2 @ Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton) 5

This game fell off the rails early as the Condors scored 22 seconds into the game and it continued from there. Jon Gillies was pulled in the first after allowing three goals on eight shots. Hey, it’s okay everybody is allowed a stinker game. Brandon Bollig and Linden Vey scored later in the game but the damage was already done. David Rittich made 15 saves on 16 shots in relief.
