The #1 affiliate of the Flames, the Stockton Heat, had an interesting slate of games this past week going 2-1 with some unlikely players racking up the points.

Sunday: Stockton Heat 3 @ Tuscon Roadrunners (Arizona) 4
For the second game in a row against Tuscon, the Heat couldn’t hold a lead as Tuscon scored the winner with 4:17 to play. Hunter Shinkaruk had a goal and an assist while Linden Vey and Emile Poirier also scored for the Heat. It was David Rittich’s Stockton and North American debut and he made 31 saves on 35 shots in the losing effort. All of Stockton’s losses this year have come to the Roadrunners.

Friday: San Diego Gulls (Anaheim) 1 @ Stockton Heat 6
Stockton got back to the win column when they returned home by thrashing the San Diego Gulls. It was a wild game with a 3rd period that featured 69 penalty minutes. Linden Vey and Matt Frattin led the way, each having a goal and two assists. Kenney Morrison, Mark Jankowski, Emile Poirier, and Brandon Bollig also scored for the Heat. Jon Gillies got the win making 22 saves on 23 shots.

Saturday: San Diego Gulls 3 @ Stockton Heat 7
Stockton made it back-to-back wins with another big victory over the Gulls. Matt Frattin had another big night scoring two goals and adding two assists (7 points in 2 games), and Andrew Mangiapane had two goals and an assist. Morgan Klimchuk, Oliver Kylington, and Mike Angelidis also scored. Jon Gillies started the game but allowed 2 goals on 8 shots and was pulled after the first. Tom McCollum came in and made 19 saves on 20 shots for his first win of the season.

Stockton sits at 5-2-1, good for second in the Pacific Division. Stockton sits just two points behind Tuscon and they’ve played the same amount of games. The Heat have 37 goals in 8 games this season to only 24 against. There’s also the potential that another Heat player will be called up to the Flames by the time this article was published.
