The Kings are gross, the Flames are playing Grossmann.

The Calgary Flames continue their California trip after an impressive victory against the defending Clarence S. Campell winners in the San Jose Sharks. They’ll look to best the team that the Sharks downed in the first round, the Los Angeles Kings, tonight. There will be some changes to the lineup.

The forward corps will be without Kris Versteeg who will miss two to three weeks with a groin injury. Freddie Hamilton will at least get the start tonight. Going forward that spot might belong to Hunter Shinkaruk who was recalled from the Stockton Heat earlier in the day.

Nicklas Grossmann also returns to the lineup tonight at the expense of Jyrki Jokipakka. Grossmann has looked awful in his limited showing as a Flame, ranking dead last in five-on-give score and zone adjusted Corsi, Fenwick, and shot percentages out of all defenseman That being said, Jokipakka is last in xG and scoring chance percentage and he deserves to sit, but not for Grossmann – it is an Achilles heel for the Flames, one they should look to rectify as soon as possible.

Grossmann gets paired with Dougie Hamilton who continues to draw the short end of the stick with who he gets paired with. Hopefully he can continue to drive scoring to counter the lack of possession. Meanwhile we’ll be sitting here questioning which coach’s dog he kicked to deserve this.
