Inferno Engulf the Boston Blades

The Calgary Inferno burnt the Boston Blades over the weekend.

The Calgary Inferno swept both games against the winless Boston Blades over the weekend, improving their fantastic season record to 9 wins and 1 loss.

On Saturday, the Inferno outshot the Blades 52-11 and got points from ten different players on route to a 5-1 win. Iya Gavrilova opened the scoring at 17:54 of the 1st period with assists from Sarah Davis and Akane Hosoyamada. Just 1:31 into the 2nd period, Blayre Turnbull made it a 2-0 game assisted from Bailey Bram. Then just over five minutes later, Brigette Lacqette and Brianne Jenner set up Rebecca Johnston for the 3-0 goal. Boston finally got on the board at 16:42 of the 2nd period, but the 3rd period was all Inferno as they would add goals from Meaghan Mikkelson and Iya Gavrilova with her 2nd of the game. Genevieve Lacasse stopped 10 of 11 shots to record her 3rd win of the season.

Game two on Sunday was more of the same, with the Inferno handing the Blades their 8th straight loss of the season by a score of 9-2. The Blades were once again badly outshot by the Inferno by a count of 58-18. The Inferno got scoring from twelve different players this time led by Brianne Jenner with 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points. Calgary got three 1st period goals from Katelyn Gosling, Bailey Bram and Rebecca Johnston. Then they got five goals in the 2nd period with Brianne Jenner scoring a hat-trick and goals also from Bailey Bram and Elana Lovell. Blayre Turnbull closed out the scoring in the 3rd period. The Inferno got assists from Haley Irwin, Erica Kromm, Brittany Esposito, Jill Saulnier and Jacquie Pierri. Delayne Brian stopped 16 of 18 shots for her 4th win of the season.

So far in just four games against the Boston Blades, the Inferno have outshot them 222-74 and outscored them 28-6.

The Inferno have 9 wins and 1 loss after 10 games this season and lead the CWHL with 18 points. They have also outscored their opponents 45-19.

After her big 5 point game on Sunday, Brianne Jenner is leading the team scoring with 6 goals and 6 assists for 12 points in 8 games which also puts her 4th in league scoring. Jill Saulnier is 2nd in team scoring and 5th in league scoring with 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points in 10 games. Brittany Esposito is 3rd in team scoring with 3 goals and 5 assists in 10 games so far.

Goaltender Delayne Brian is 2nd in wins with 4 wins and a 1.72 goals against average and 0.916 save percentage. Genevieve Lacasse leads the league with a goals against average of 1.33 and has 3 wins and a 0.930 save percentage (2nd in league).

The Inferno now go on a four game road trip before the Christmas break and hit the ice again next weekend in Montreal taking on Les Canadiennes Montreal. Game times are Saturday, December 10th @ 1:30pm EST/11:30pm MST and Sunday, December 11th @ 1:30pm EST/11:30am MST.
