I am happy to now be covering the 2016 Clarkson Cup Champion Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. As a fan I have always loved watching women’s hockey. It just seems to be a different game. It seems more gritty and fierce, maybe because of the fewer places you can go so it is maybe more competitive? I don’t know, all I know is I love it.

So let’s get to the task at hand. So far this season the Calgary Inferno have a very impressive 6 wins and no losses and are in 1st place in the CWHL.

The Inferno swept both games against the Brampton Thunder to open the season. The ladies won the first game 3-2 in a shootout led by goals from Rebecca Johnston, team scoring leader Jill Saulnier and Captain Brianne Jenner potting the game winner in the shootout. Goalie Emerance Maschmeyer stopped 29 of 31 shots for the win. The Inferno secured a win in game two with goals from Haley Irwin, Jill Saulnier and Brianne Jenner while goalie Genevieve Lacasse stopped 17 of 19 shots for the win.

The ladies turned up the heat against the Boston Blades, drubbing the Blades 8-0 in the first game and 6-3 in the second. In the first game, the Inferno got goals from six different players and points from eleven players led by Brittany Esposito with 2 goals and an assist, Jenna Cunningham with a goal and 2 assists and a handful of other players who scored 2 points. Goalie Delayne Brian turned aside all 21 shots for the win and shutout. The Inferno dominated the second game out-shooting the Blades 50-24, with Jill Saulnier leading the way with 2 goals and an assist. Delayne Brian stopped 21 of 24 shots for her second win of the season.

The Inferno continued to roll beating the Toronto Furies twice by scores of 3-2 and 2-1. They got scoring from Brigette Lacquette, Bailey Bram, Brianne Jenner, Haley Irwin, Blayre Turnbull and Jessica Campbell to name a few. Delayne Brian picked up her third win followed by Emerance Maschmeyer getting her second win.

So far, Jill Saulnier is leading the team scoring with 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points in 6 games which also puts her 4th in league scoring. Brittany Esposito is 2nd in team scoring and 10th in league scoring with 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points in 6 games. Jenna Cunningham is 3rd in team scoring with 2 goals and 2 assists in just 2 games so far.

Goaltender Delayne Brian is 2nd in wins with 3 wins and a 1.63 goals against average and 0.931 save percentage. Emerance Maschmeyer has 2 wins and a goals against average of 1.41 (2nd in league) and 0.948 save percentage (1st in league).

The Inferno hit the ice again this weekend in Brampton taking on the Thunder. Game times are Saturday, November 19th @ 6:30pm EST/4:30pm MST and Sunday, November 20th @ 1:30pm EST/11:30am MST.
