Calgary Flames 2
Vancouver Canucks 1
1st Period
The Flames took down the Vancouver Canucks in their fourth preseason game of the season by the score of 2-1. One of Calgary's newest acquisitions, Troy Brouwer got the Flames on the board early with his first goal of the preseason. At 6:08 in the first period Brouwer set himself up in the slot and took a feed and buried the puck in the net to put the Flames up 1-0. Sam Bennett and Mark Giordano picked up the helpers. The rest of the first was fairly tame. Calgary had multiple PP opportunities, but came up empty.
2nd Period
The second period saw Vancouver appyling more pressure in the Calgary end, but Brian Elliott was more than up to the task. Michael Ferland reacquainted himself with the Canucks and dropped the gloves with Joseph Labate in retaliation for a first period hit on Flames rookie Matthew Tkachuk. Vancouver finally got on the board at 9:18 when Guillaume Brisebois came streaking down the left side and absolutely snipped the top right corner of Elliott's glove side and tied the game at 1-1. The tie was short lived however. Calgary hopped on the PP and Matthew Tkachuk collected a loose puck in the crease and jammed it in for his first NHL goal giving the Flames a 2-1 lead. Sam Bennett and Troy Brouwer got the assists on the play, giving Brouwer his first multi point game with the Flames.
3rd Period
The third period was mostly notable for Flames rookie goalie Tyler Parsons seeing some NHL action. Brian Elliott was relieved of duties after the 2nd having stopped 17 of 18 shots in a solid two period performance. Parsons faced 7 shots in the final frame and stopped each and every one of them. The Flames peppered Tyler Demko with 11 shots in the third, but none of them found the back of the net. The Flames were able to squeeze in one more act of truculence when Garnet Hathaway and Jack Skille dropped the gloves after Hathaway laid a nice hit on Brendan Gaunce as Vancouver was trying to get the puck into Calgary's end.
