While the majority of the league gets a week off and has the chance to head out on a much needed holiday, 44 of the NHL's best gather in Nashville for All Star weekend.

This year for the game they changed the format from the regular 2 team 5 on 5 game we've been used to for a long time. Now this year they have split the teams into their respective divisions and made a 3 on 3 tournament style game. The first 40 minutes will be considered the semi finals with the Atlantic division vs the Metropolitan division and the Pacific division vs the Central division. The winner of those two 20 minutes games will play each other in the final 20 minute game to crown the champion. The winning team gets a cash prize for winning the game.

With there being a cash prize for winning the game, i assume we’ll get some effort from the teams to get the prize and the end of the tunnel. I’m very interested in seeing how this format will eventually work out. I personally haven’t watched the ASG in years because it’s the same thing year after year but with changes they’ve made this year it seems more of a interesting event to turn into this year. Especially since I was one of those people that voted for John Scott to get into this game.

The teams for this years game are…
