Flames finish off their 5 game road trip on the losing end, not for a lack of effort.

The Calgary Flames finished off their pre All Star break 5 game road trip with a 2-1 loss in Dallas. If it wasn’t for bad luck Calgary would have no luck at all. Mad goal mouth scrambles that don’t result in a goal and Antti Niemi stopping shots through traffic that he doesn’t see did the Flames in tonight.

Slow first period, only a total of 3 shots, and a slow first 5 minutes in the second had the Stars up on the scoresheet and the shot clock. After that it seemed to be all Flames, out shooting the Stars 2 to 1. It took a nifty pass from behind the net to Colborne by Hudler to get the Flames on the board.

The loss wasn't for a lack of effort. The Flames played with a lot more effort than they played with in Carolina. Those are the Flames we saw last year but with different results.

My stars of the game are Jiri Hudler, who played his best game of the season in my opinion. Seemed to be all over the place on the forecheck and set up Colborne for the Flames only goal. Deryk Engelland was a physical force and very well defensively in his 9:21 in TOI. Also had the secondary assist on the Colborne goal. Also Karri Ramo was the reason the Flames were in this game from the start to finish.

Calgary has one more game before the All Star break when they host Nashville on Wednesday back at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
