Preseason Game Thread #3: Calgary Flames at Colorado Avalanche

Some – not all, but some – of the Calgary Flames have made their way to Denver for a preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche. It’s preseason, so it’s definitely not the full roster on either side; that said, there are enough notable players partaking in the game that it should at least be of interest.

You know… if we could watch it. Sadly, this game is not being broadcast anywhere with a visual. We can, however, listen to it on the radio. So hey, tune in to Sportsnet The Fan 960 for all your immediate play-by-play needs, and hope for the best.

(Like players not getting hurt in ultimately meaningless games!)

There are a couple of interesting stories for the Flames to follow in this game:

• Joni Ortio is expected to play the full 60 minutes. How does he fare? There are three goaltenders competing for two spots, with no easy recourse to do something with the one guy who doesn’t make it.
• Rasmus Andersson is still at camp. The Barrie Colts season starts tomorrow. The Colts are the team he likely spends most of the year with, but he’s still at main camp, putting in a hell of a performance.
• Not only that, but he’s paired with Ryan Wilson: a player on a PTO whose chances of getting a contract have gone up after T.J. Brodie’s injury.
• The Flames’ playoff third line of Micheal Ferland, Matt Stajan, and David Jones has been reunited. I that line going to stick together this season?
• Presuming the centre position is too full for Josh Jooris, how does he fare on the right side? While that’s the position he started out in, he did play the majority of the 2014-15 season in the middle. He still has to earn his spot, too.
• Sam Bennett! Just in general. Sam Bennett is exciting.
