According to the Gatineau Olympiques’ Twitter feed, Louick Marcotte has signed an entry level contract with the Calgary Flames. The 21-year old right winger has put up impressive numbers in his past couple QMJHL seasons, putting up 76 points in 63 games this season and scoring 100 points in 67 games the year prior.

Not surprisingly, Louick Marcotte went undrafted as he only put up 22 points for the QMJHL's Prince Edward Island Rocket in his draft eligible year. However Marcotte improved considerably the following year, more than doubling his point total to 54.

It remains unclear what kind of an impact Louick Marcotte can have at the professional level. His more dominant years in Junior came at the ages of 20 and 21 in a league with players as young as 16. His size – listed at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds – no doubt contributed to his scoring output, and means that Marcotte has the potential to be an impactful power forward in the NHL.

If the reports are true, this represents a solid signing for the Calgary Flames. The team does not give up any assets – draft picks or otherwise – in return for potential, size, and depth on the right wing.
