Dougie Hamilton is now a Calgary Flame

Well, that's one way to fix the defence.

It isn't even time for the first round yet, but the Calgary Flames are already stealing everyone's thunder. Before Connor McDavid's fate has even been decided, Dougie Hamilton's has: and he's coming to Calgary.

The Flames gave up the 15th overall selection, as well as the 45th and 52nd picks, for the young defenceman.

Defence has been a point of weakness for the Flames. After Mark Giordano and TJ Brodie, there really isn't much to go on. So picking up a 22-year-old, right-handed top four defender? That's perfect. Hamilton is exactly what Calgary needed, and now they have him.

To illustrate just how huge this is for the Flames, here's how Hamilton fits in with their top four defence from the 2014-15 season.

That's an instant, immediate, insane upgrade. And it really can't be stressed enough: the former Bruin just turned 22 nine days ago.

Hamilton is a restricted free agent, so he'll still need a new contract. That said, the Flames have the cap space, and there's absolutely no doubt he'll be signed for a few years yet.

So there may not be a whole lot of reason to watch the draft now... but that's okay. That's more than okay. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES COME ON.
