Flames choose not to re-sign Eric Roy

The team announced today that they will not re-sign 2013 5th round draft pick Eric Roy. Because the club did not sign him at the end of his CHL career, NHL rules will allow him to re-enter the upcoming draft.

This was an expected move from the Flames. Despite putting up a very solid season on the dominant Brandon Wheat Kings, Roy was a long shot to make the team. He essentially peaked during his draft year, and showed little growth in his final two WHL seasons. Ever since his defensive partner Ryan Pulock left, Roy's game went downhill. He was passed on the prospect depth chart, and with the defensive-heavy draft class this year, it was likely he would fall further.

From the 2013 draft class, sixth-round pick Tim Harrison, and seventh-round picks Rushan Rafikov and John Gilmour remain unsigned. It may be a little early to make predictions about these three, but it's unlikely that they will be signed either. Best of luck to Roy in his future endeavours.
