Calgary Flames
Flames at Canucks [Stanley Cup Playoff Game #2 Thread]
The Flames head into this game with a 1-0 series lead. We all saw that coming back in October, didn't we?
It’s game two of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the Calgary Flames, and they have a 1-0 series lead over the Vancouver Canucks, all thanks to timely scoring and that comeback third period nonsense they’ve been doing all season long that we love ever-so-much.
A flukey Bo Horvat goal gave the Canucks the game one lead initially, but the Flames were eventually able to tie it up largely thanks to two rookies: a giveaway to Michael Ferland resulted in a David Jones goal, and Sam Bennett being terrifyingly awesome gave Kris Russell, he who scored all of four goals in the regular season, the chance to take the lead.
With 30 seconds to go.
How dramatic is that? How fun is that? We're just happy to be here, and we already got a win.
How fun would it be to return to Calgary with a 2-0 series lead? That's definitely what the guys will be chasing tonight, but it won't be easy; definitely not against a more balanced Canucks team that really, really, really does not want to go on the road in that situation.
The Canucks contained the top line last game – whether Sean Monahan is injured or not is definitely a question, though – but the depth came through. Bennett and Mikael Backlund, in particular, did an incredible job; primarily matched up against the Sedins, they were held off a bit, but they destroyed any other Vancouver player they stepped on the ice up against.
The Flames' high end depth is slowly forming before our eyes. In the playoffs. What a world.
