Flames at Canucks [Stanley Cup Playoff Game #1 Thread]

Everybody at the beginning of the season knew we would be here, right? The time has finally come – game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Calgary Flames are in Vancouver to take on the Canucks as they look to steal home ice advantage. They’re coming in well rested as a plethora of individuals sat against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.

The match up seems to favor the Canucks at first glance given that they have more points. They also have better possession numbers, but that doesn't translate well to scoring chances. They also have the third best special teams in the league.

The problem for Vancouver is that they take a lot more penalties than the Flames. The Canucks are the fifth most penalized team in the league while Calgary is the least. This leads to a lot more chances for Calgary who has the highest special teams goal differential in the league.

The Flames also have the P.D.O. advantage. Their fourth ranked P.D.O. puts them ten spots ahead of Vancouver. They'll look to maintain their second ranked shooting percentage and attempt to have that carry them to victory.

Sam Bennett will make his playoff debut in his second professional game tonight. He draws in for a slumping Mason Raymond. Raphael Diaz is still out and will be replaced by Corey Potter once again who will play alongside David Schlemko.
