Adirondack loses in Shootout at Rockford

Flames get an important point with short forward bench

Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

Adirondack was in Rockford last night for the first of two games against the Ice Hogs.  Brad Thiessen had a strong game, making 37 saves in regulation and Ben Hanowski, in his first game returning from injury, scored the game tying goal late in the third period.  The Flames were outshot 16-5 in the first period and 13-7 in the third.

The seven minute overtime did not see any scoring, and the Ice Hogs were the only team to tally in the shoot out - a 4-3 SO loss for the Flames.

Besides Hanowski, Taylor Vause and Mark Cundari also returned from injured status, but the Flames are still short up front and were forced to again play Patrick Sieloff at forward.  With Markus Granlund's called up, Brian McGrattan in Calgary awaiting the birth of their first child and Bryce Van Brabant still recovering, the Flames will continue to have challenges through this tough stretch in the schedule.

Garnet Hathaway and Kenny Agostino both added a goal and an assist for the Flames Wednesday evening - Hathaway short handed and Agostino on the power play.  The Flames are back on the ice Saturday at Rockford and Sunday afternoon at Grand Rapids.   Adirondack is one point behind eighth place Hamilton with two games in hand.
