According to the official Calgary Flames Twitter account Jon Gillies will require hip surgery that will put him out 4-6 months. No information as been released as to what is wrong with Gillies hip, but the Flames confirmed the young goalie is being shelved to take care of the injury.
#Flames GM Brad Treliving announces hip surgery for goaltender Jon Gillies, who will be out 4-6 months.— Calgary Flames (@NHLFlames) December 3, 2015
TSN reported in November that Gillies may require surgery and sure enough, the Flames announced today that he will be done for the season. Subsequent Tweets from Brad Treliving and the Flames say Gillies should be ready for development camp. Hopefully this doesn't set Gillies back too far in his development, but in the end it's probably for the best.
