The NHL released it’s Stars of the Week and Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau nabbed the top honors. Gaudreau had 5 goals in his last 2 games including a hat trick against Winnipeg before the Christmas break. “Johnny Hockey” barely missed a hat trick last night in Calgary’s 5-3 win over arch rival Edmonton Oilers. He netted 2 goals and had multiple scoring opportunities to get his second hat trick in as many games. In scoring his 5 goals, Gaudreau upped his season total to 17 and has been a key cog in Calgary’s franchise record 11 straight wins at home. Gaudreau leads the Flames in goals and total points. He’s also on pace to tie or break the NHL record for overtime goals in a season. Johnny Gaudreau is one of 3 Flames holding a roster spot for Team North America in next Fall’s World Cup of Hockey (Sean Monahan and Dougie Hamilton are the others). Gaudreau’s next chance to add to his total comes Tuesday night as the Flames take on the Anaheim Ducks at home.
