You do it to yourself: Flames @ Winnipeg Jets preview (4/82)

Many of the Flames' problems come in the second period, when they seemingly stop playing. They need to sort that.

Another game, another shoddy second period. It's very much a Flames problem. They do it to themselves.

So it's up to them to fix it.

That task starts tonight in Winnipeg. This is the Jets’ home opener, after spending the first four games on the road, winning three. They’ve won in Boston, New Jersey and MSG, their only loss so far coming to the Islanders. Now’s their chance to convert road form into home form at MTS Center.

What's been behind the Jets' good start to the season? Lots of good, talented kids, according to our siblings at Arctic Ice Hockey.

Don't I know you?

Hey, Adam Pardy's still a NHL player. Who knew? Michael Frolik joined the Flames from free agency after leaving the Jets at the end of last season.

St Louis Blues 4-3 Calgary Flames

Game recapStats recap

Two good periods there – unfortunately the middle period was awful, and the Flames kept the St Louis curse going. The first was good, and you couldn’t fault the effort in the third, but the three unanswered goals in the second were killer. Must do better.

Projected lines

  • Karri Ramo starts in goal after Jonas Hiller was greatly let down against the Blues.
  • Lance Bouma’s broken leg rules him out for three months. Josh Jooris takes his place.
  • Markus Granlund’s call-up doesn’t earn him a starting spot, he’ll join Joni Ortio in the press box.
  • Sam Bennett and Michael Frolik will be Mikael Backlund’s wingers. Bob Hartley has said the line will get a game to see how they fit together. Here’s hoping.

**UPDATE** – Practice lines this morning threw the above out of the window. Ferland joined Bennet and Backlund, with Frolik partnering Stajan and Jones. Your guess is as good as mine.
