Preseason Game Thread #7: Calgary Flames at Winnipeg Jets

It's the penultimate preseason game! Oh thank god. Less than a week to go until the games actually matter.

Two! Two preseason games to go! Ah, ah, ah. And seriously, thank the lord – waiting for players who have not been performing up to snuff to make some kind of statement, all the while living in fear that the established guys are going to suffer some kind of stupid injury, has been brutal. Let's get to the real hockey, please.

We’ll be one step closer after tonight’s contest. The Calgary Flames only see the Winnipeg Jets for the rest of the preseason. Tonight, they’re in Manitoba; on Oct. 3, they’ll be back in Calgary. And then – real hockey.

This roster only has a handful of guys we know are going to appear on the Flames this year. Otherwise, it's mostly players still battling for spots.

Two of the most notable guys we haven’t seen much of who appear to be in danger of falling out? Joe Colborne and Mason Raymond. Raymond, in particular, has a rather big contract, but hasn’t done much to prove he deserves a spot on the roster. What’s gonna give?

On the backend, Jakub Nakladal and Ryan Wilson in particular are fighting to make the team.

And then you’ve got the goaltending situation – Joni Ortio is starting, and Jonas Hiller backing him up. We still have no idea who’s going to be here opening night.
