Canucks Visit Calgary: Preseason Game Four

Preseason doesn't really count on the bottom line to the Flames ultimate fortune this season, but it matters plenty to the fringe players and prospects trying to draw an NHL paycheck.

There’s still 46 prospective Flames in camp, and the club can only carry 23 at the NHL level at a time. Tonight (and last night, and tomorrow night) will be the proving ground for those guys on the fringe. Guys like forwards Bill Arnold, Garnet Hathaway, and Sven Baertschi, and defensemen Keegan Kanzig and Raphael Diaz. Also, Sam Bennett and Devin Setoguchi return to action after minor injuries.

There's been a lot of talk about offering Diaz an NHL deal, and hopefully the Flames are leaning towards it. He certainly seems to be earning his way into the lineup.

A lot of guys are sitting, including obvious (at this moment) number one netminder Karri Ramo. Manning the spot between the pipes should be future solution Jonas Hiller for two periods and AHL depth-man Brad Thiessen for the third.

Tune in to CBC tonight at 7PM MST for all the action. Also, I can't get confirmation, but the game may be streamed on NHL.COM's Flames site or on the Flames YouTube channel, so check there if you can't turn on or tune in elsewhere.
