At 11:37 in the morning, the Calgary Flames made their mark in the UFA frenzy by signing Swiss goalie, Jonas Hiller. The 32-year old veteran was signed to a 2 year deal that has an annual cap hit of $4,500,000, the same amount he earned previously with the Ducks.

Pretty decent goalie who will provide us with a nice, veteran presence in net and will be splitting the time with Karri Ramo, I can see Hiller playing around 50 games while Ramo getting around 30. With this signing it’s almost confirmed that Ortio is the starter for Adirondack next season and will be playing there for a while.

Hiller is a really solid goalie, but just had no room in Anaheim with Frederick Andersen, who plays just as good and for less money. As well as John Gibson playing some good hockey and needing to see some ice time.

Stay tuned for more UFA action from the Flames, here at Matchsticks and Gasoline.
