Calgary Flames Draft: Sam Bennett

With fourth pick, the Calgary Flames are proud to select, from Kingston, Sam Bennett.

Bruce Bennett

No pull-ups? No problem. The Calgary Flames have selected one of the best two-way forwards in this draft with their fourth overall pick. Hard to argue with 91 points in only 57 games along with a whopping +34 this year. He might not be able to jump right into the action like Sean Monahan nor is he an NHL ready draftee like Aaron Ekblad, but if he lives up to his potential then the Flames will be really deep at center.

Prospect Overview:

Born: June 20th, 1996

Position: C/LW

Shoots: Left

Height: 6' (183 cm)

Weight: 82 kg (181 lbs)

Country: Canada

Sam Bennett's Stats:

Sam Bennett on being drafted by Calgary:

"It couldn't get much better than this, it's absolutely a dream come true. It's such an honor to be selected by the Flames, it couldn't get any better than this."

Brad Treviling on drafting Bennett:

"Well, we're excited right now. As you said if you look at the teams that have won, the teams that are challenging you can't win without strength down the middle..."

Elite Prospects on Sam Bennett:

"Bennett is an energetic, skilled winger who is quick on his feet and has deceptive speed. He generates chances with his quickness, awareness and constant effort. He's not flashy, but energetic and does possess an excellent release."

Central Scouting OHL Expert Chris Edwards:

"Bennett has not only been very noticeable but extremely effective every shift of every game so far this season, his puckhandling and playmaking are excellent and he has one of the best shots in this year’s draft class."

Sam Bennett Highlights

Should be really exciting to see Bennett play in the big leagues. Great offensive skills and pretty decent defensive game to go along with it, it will be interesting to see how he pans out and how he adapts to a more physical game in the NHL.
