World Championship day 9: Just Jiri

The preliminary round is winding down.

Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Slow day for the Flames today, with only Jiri Hudler in action.

This is what happened: the Jiri line appears to have been broken up (noooo - but he was reunited with Roman Cervenka!) as the Czechs lot 4-3 in a shootout to the Danes. Our Jiri had 14:51 of ice time, eighth out of all Czech forwards. He only played 0:23 in a rather uneventful OT, but was the Czechs' second shooter int he shootout (he did not score).

Hudler had two shots on net, which wasn't bad for this game. He was on the ice for Jakub Kindl's insurance goal to make it 3-1 in the third period (Cervenka assisted on the goal), and was not on the ice for any goals against when the Danes tied it up.

Tomorrow is going to be a much more eventful day for the Flames. Everyone is back in action: Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund are playing against each other at 7:45 a.m. MT, Johnny Gaudreau is facing off against Team Finland at the same time, and Jiri Hudler sees Team Norway at 11:45 a.m. MT.
