Last night, the Flames scored eight times in eliminating the Edmonton Oilers from postseason consideration. Although Calgary is still in contention mathematically, chances are pretty good that they'll be home after their 82nd game, a road matchup against the Vancouver Canucks on April 13th. Seven games fill the playbill in action today in the NHL.
1PM: The New York Islanders are out of the playoffs, and host the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are dancing with the New York Rangers for the last wildcard spot. Also at one, the St. Louis Blues visit the Pittsburgh Penguins for a contest between division leaders.
7PM: The Toronto Maple Leafs try to keep up with the Capitals and the Red Wings in the playoff race at New Jersey. The Devils welcome long time teammate David Clarkson back to the Prudential Center for the first time since he joined the Leafs. At the same time, the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks will host the Nashville Predators.
7:30PM: The Red Wings will host their own soiree, facing off with the Minnesota Wild. Detroit beat Minnesota last night in the Twin Cities, and the Wild are looking to hang onto a playoff spot. Also at 7:30, the Buffalo Sabres pay the Canucks a visit in Vancouver.
8PM: Tonight's finale will pit the President's Trophy contending Anaheim Ducks against the lottery competing Florida Panthers in California. Florida won the first matchup, 3-2 in November.
In addition to the NHL, there's seven NBA games, seven NCAA basketball games, 14 spring training matchups, and the AUTO CLUB 400. Get your fix on somewhere!
Calgary will host the San Jose Sharks tomorrow night. In the meantime, leave a comment below, and keep it locked down here at Matchsticks and Gasoline for all the Flames news that's fit to print.
