The Flames started winless in their first four road games, so the first long road trip of the season looked a bit daunting for the young club. The five game road trip began this weekend with two games at Hamilton.
In both games, the Flames came from behind to win in regulation: 3-1 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday.
- Brad Thiessen was in net for both wins. Joni Ortio has not played since being pulled early in the 11/1 game against Utica.
- With the recent call ups to Calgary other players have really stepped up. Since coming back from offseason surgery, Emile Poirier has two goals and two assists in three games and is +3. Turner Elson continued his high tempo play with 2 goals and a +3 this weekend. Bryce Van Brabant also had two goals this weekend. Mathieu Tousignant continued his inspired play and was a key to the rally Saturday night, with a goal and assist in the third period.
- The penalty kill was strong this weekend, allowing only one goal in 11 short handed situations, including an extended period shorthanded in the third period Saturday night and a successful 5 on 3 penalty kill.
- The Flames are 5-6-1 for the season, but are 5-4-1 in their last ten and 4-1-0 in their last five. Even with four talented players up with Calgary over the past week and a half, the team is making very positive strides.
The Flames are at Rochester Monday afternoon at 3PM.
