The Calgary Flames Draft Sven Bartschi 13th Overall

Published

on

With the 13th overall pick, the Calgary Flames have selected Sven Bartschi, from the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.

At 5’10” and 180 lbs, he’s not a big player, but he’s a good one with a solid two-way game.

Nobody really thought he'd fall this far- a lot of draftniks expected him to go around 7-10 overall, given both his dominance in his WHL rookie year and his consistency. Just as important, Bartschi scored a vast majority of his points at even strength, often lining up against other team's top lines.

Sven is unlikely to make the team out of camp, but he certainly adds some strong offense to the Flame's prospect pool. While Sven will most likely not be high end high scoring forward, he will spend his career outscoring the opponent significantly and moving the puck in the right direction against other top players. Stay tuned for more updates from the 2011 NHL Entry Draft!
