Hey- if the Flames are making a "playoff push" they might as well make it good, if not great, right?
It's no secret I wanted a rebuild started this year, but at this point, I want the Flames to push, because mediocrity is awful. I'd rather see a team overachieve and make it a round or two than simply miss out or burn out in a single round.
Phoenix is one of the teams Calgary is currently battling with for a bottom four playoff spot, and while I don't see a single favorable matchup for the Flames (or anyone in the Western Conference for that matter), we could do a whole lot worse than the Phoenix Coyotes. They've got a plus goalie, decent forwards and decent defense, and a great coach. Not ideal, but nobody currently in a playoff spot is.
