Flames @ Avalanche Gamethread

New, comments

The Avs have owned the Flames thus far this year, mostly due to the work of Craig Anderson and the top duo of Stastny and Wolski. Unfortunately for Calgary, Colorado beat them while they were shooting lights out - now that the SH% has begun to sink back down to earth, the Flames are especially vulnerable to a club with a red hot starting goalie and will to throw themselves in front of every moving puck in the defensive zone.

That said, the Flames have won the possession and scoring chance differential and probably deserved a better fate in one or both of the previous games. If they continue to spend more time in the Avs zone, the results will begin to follow at some point.

Stuff to watch for:

- Wolski and Stastny are the primary threats on this club. It'll be interesting to see if Langkow's trio sees that match-up again.

- Calgary's PP is abysmal right now. The 25th ranking isn't an artifact of poor luck or bad bounces - the Flames are legitimately poor at generating shots and chances while a man up. That extra time spent practicing hasn't done much good thus far. Nor has spending some $12M+ on power-play specialists in the back-end.

- Pardy and Conroy are likely out tonight...as are Hejduk and Svatos for the Avs. We'll call it a draw I guess.

Let's get it on.
