This weekend we’ll get our first taste of hockey in over four months as the Calgary Flames prospects square off in the annual Penticton Young Stars Classic. Prospects from the Flames along with the Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, and Edmonton Oilers will be involved in the round-robin tournament.

The Flames will be icing the following roster featuring 3 goalies, 8 defensemen, and 15 forwards.

Among those headlining the Flames roster is 2017 1st round pick Juuso Valimaki who spent much of the summer playing exhibition games with the Finnish World Junior team. He’ll be captaining that team at this year’s tournament in Buffalo.

Other notables include possible 2017 Flame Mark Jankowski, standout sixth round picks Andrew Mangiapane and Matthew Phillips, and soon to be pushing for a spot Rasmus Andersson on the blueline. Then of course is projected future #1 goalie Tyler Parsons between the pipes. And I almost forgot, big college signing Spencer Foo who I’m excited to see play. Also how could I leave out other big college signing free agent Josh Healey!?

Let’s just say there’s a lot of Flames prospects to be excited about!

The Flames first take to the ice on Friday at 5:00 MT against the Oilers. Then on Sunday they take on Vancouver at 3:00 MT, and finish the tournament with the Jets on Monday at 11:30 AM MT.

All games are broadcast on the Flames website as well as the Flames smartphone app. We’ll have recaps from all three games in the tournament as well. Hockey is finally back!
