The Calgary Inferno split a pair of games in Montreal over the weekend to not only secure a spot in the playoffs, but to host a playoff series at home.

On Saturday, Katelyn Gosling opened the scoring 10:53 into the 1st period with assists from Brianne Jenner and Iya Gavrilova. Montreal closed the opening period with three unanswered goals to make the score 3-1. Jessica Campbell scored at the 11:33 mark of the 2nd to cut the lead to 3-2. Blayre Turnbull picked up the lone assist. Montreal restored the two-goal cushion later in the period before Rebecca Johnston cut the lead again, scoring on the power-play, assisted by Haley Irwin and Meaghan Mikkelson, making it a 4-3 game after two periods. The Inferno would get the game-tying goal from Jill Saulnier, assisted by Iya Gavrilova and Brianne Jenner to send the game to overtime. Just 2:41 into the extra frame, Brianne Jenner scored the game-winner, assisted by Brigette Lacquette to give the Inferno the 5-4 win. Genevieve Lacasse stopped 26 of 30 shots for her 6th win of the season.

Sunday was a similar game, but once the Inferno fell behind, they couldn’t recover this time. Montreal opened the scoring just 2:46 into the game. Iya Gavrilova tied the game 1-1 at the 8:10 mark, assisted by Sarah Davis and Meaghan Mikkelson. Montreal took the lead for good with just over thirty seconds left in the 1st period. After a scoreless 2nd period, the Canadiennes scored two more goals in the 3rd to make the final score 4-1. Emerance Maschmeyer allowed 3 goals on 26 shots in the loss.
