Flames select Rasmus Andersson with No. 53 pick in 2015 NHL draft

Thanks to all of the Dougie Hamilton excitement from day one of the NHL entry draft, the Calgary Flames have been left, waiting and watching, until the 53rd overall pick. With a number of options still on the board, the Flames were content to wait and not trade up, and they got a pretty good guy as a result.

With the 53rd overall pick, the Calgary Flames have selected defenceman Rasmus Andersson of the Barrie Colts.

A native of Malmo, Sweden, Andersson is a 6'0, 212 lb. right-shooting defender. He was born on Oct. 27, so he's a bit older for this draft, but that hasn't stopped anybody.

Andersson spent two years playing for his local Malmo Redhawks before joining the Colts for his draft season, where he broke out. Andersson scored 12 goals and put up 64 points for the Colts over 67 games (remember, he's a defenceman!).

He had 88 PIM to boot, so you know with his size and offensive talent, the Flames must have been coveting him.

Andersson was third among OHL defencemen in points, and is said to model his game after Drew Doughty. If he turns into him, well, the Flames will definitely be delighted with this draft.
