Adirondack Defeats Utica (finally…)

Published

on

For the first time in 10 attempts this season, the Adirondack Flames have beaten the Utica Comets (12 if you count preseason). On Friday night in Utica, Brad Thiessen stopped all 30 shots he faced – leading the team to a 4-0 victory against their divisional rival. Bryce Van Brabant had a goal and assist. John Ramage also scored five-on-five, while both Mark Cundari and Drew Shore added power play markers.

As is typical for games between these teams, it was physical and littered with penalties. There were a total of 58 PIM in the contest (seven power plays aside – with the Flames' special teams being critical in gaining the two points).

What is impressive in breaking this awful streak against Utica last night is that it was done with Tyler Wotherspoon, Emile Poirier, Michael Ferland and Markus Granlund in Calgary. The team recalled Calgary native Taylor Vause from Colorado of the ECHL, and he will hopefully be dressed for tonight’s home contest against Toronto. The Flames still remain in 10th position in the Western Conference, but are only two points from the final playoff position with three games in hand.
