Game Preview – Flames take on Islanders Sans Giordano

Published

on

News finally broke this morning that Mark Giordano will miss today's game against the Islanders. Flames Twitter has been broken, but it's okay – it's seemingly only for one game. This certainly makes an away game against one of the east's toughest teams much tougher though. Corey Potter will replace Giordano on the blue line.

The Flames will look to establish two game winning streak after downing the Devils in New Jersey by a score of three to one. They are on quite the tough road trip and this is another huge test for them against the east. The games are starting to become must wins and the Sabres just did the Flames a huge favor by defeating the Canucks six to three.

The Islanders come in with a share of first place with the Rangers, though the other New York team has two games in hand. They are 7-2-1 in their last ten games. It will be a tough match up for the boys in red. The Islanders don't take many penalties and are third in score adjusted Corsi, first in score adjusted Fenwick and first in shot differential.

Game Time: 5:00 P.M. M.S.T.

Channel: RSNW and CFAN 960

All-Time Matchup: 44-44-20-1

Common Threads: Only three players are better than Giordano in score adjusted Corsi relative. One of those players is the Islanders newly signed Nick Leddy.

Both teams have brand new number one goalies. The Flames have Jonas Hiller while the Islanders have Jaroslav Halak. Hiller has been a bit better.

Scoreboard Watching: Let's go Ducks and Avalanche! *Gets physically ill*
