Opening night didn't go too well for your protagonists, so it's up to the coach to fix the problems.

Well, that didn't exactly go to plan. The first few minutes aside, nothing worked. It's up to the Jack Adams-winning coach of the year to figure it out.

Game recapStats recap

Two fights in the first period, somewhat unnecessary – especially Micheal Ferland’s 0:02 tilt. I don’t have a problem with fights in the heat of the moment, but both fights – the Ferland one in particular – was just pointless. What purpose did it serve? The same can be said for Bollig vs Prust – two guys with nothing much going for them than fists. There was no real reason for it. Passion, yes. Momentum? Well after Bollig’s fight the Canucks scored five times, so that clearly worked…

The fights weren't the reason the Flames lost though. They were just second best all over the ice, barring a good first few minutes where the Flames drove play and looked threatening. After that, the back end looked fragile, the forwards devoid of ideas, and Karri Ramo lost at sea.

In summary, not the start you'd want, but it's also important to remember it was game one of 82. There's still plenty of time left for things to go right.

Projected lines

  • Karri Ramo’s audition for the starter’s spot didn’t go well, so it’s Jonas Hiller’s turn to make a case. The goalies are currently one bad game away from being left out, which I suppose is the upside of having three netties on the roster.
  • Mason Raymond survived waivers, and jumps back into the lineup as if nothing ever happened.
