Based on how the standings are, and the percentages of the flames not landing the 1st overall pick from the lottery, should they consider trading up to get MacKinnon?
The consensus is that Seth Jones will go first overall, and based on who ends up with the 1st overall pick, second pick might be willing to part with their pick for the next stud defenceman on the depth chart and some additional picks. Just look at the shape Edmonton is in after becoming greedy and taking yet another all star forward over a stud defenceman, leaving their defence in shambles, tanking for yet another season. Colorado, Tampa, Carolina might be some of those teams interested in moving a higher pick, as they already have very strong forward prospects in their systems.
Living in Halifax, i have the luxury of being able to watch Drouin and MacKinnon play, so i may be slightly biased in my reasons for the move. But i'm interested in seeing what everyone else thinks the Flames should do. They do have Baertshi, Backlund, Horak, and even Gaudreau in the system, so its not necessarily critical that they make a big move like this. However MaKinnon is a franchise player, with the potential to become a great power forward in the NHL, and any team would benefit with him in their lineup, with the added benefit of potentially being NHL ready as early as next season.
Do you think Feaster should make a move at the draft?
