Jones Out, Jones In

So there’s a reason David Jones‘ jersey has his first initial attached to it. Soon we’ll get to see a B. Jones, no relation.

David Jones has been placed on the team’s injured reserve list retroactive to the ninth, following the Flames‘ 3-2 victory over the Canadiens. He went down sometime in the third period, and played only one 20 second shift in the final ten minutes of the game. He is currently listed as week-to-week with an upper body injury.

Jones joins Matt Stajan, out week-to-week with a deep leg contusion, and Mike Cammalleri, who has yet to suit up this season due to a hand injury, on the IR. This season the right winger has scored two goals and four points in four games, playing an average of 17:52 minutes a game.

While David Jones is certainly a substantial loss, hopefully the team won’t suffer too much for it. The story of this short season so far is the Flames’ intense work ethic, and if Blair Jones gets to play, he should be a part of that:

Blair, who has two assists in two games with the Heat, will not be dressed in tomorrow’s contest against the Devils. Instead, Tim Jackman will draw in for his first game of the season, and it appears Lance Bouma may get bumped up a line:

Which is awesome, because Bouma is awesome, and easily the best option.

Other notes:

• Chris Breen has been sent down to the Abbotsford Heat for a conditioning stint. It’s possible he plays his first NHL game sometime this season.
• Sean Monahan currently has three goals and five points in four games. Right now he’s the Flames’ leading scorer, and behind only Tomas Hertl in rookie scoring. The Ottawa 67’s are currently third in their division, so I’m sure they’re doing just fine, because at this rate they’re probably never going to see Monahan ever again ever.
• The previously-maligned Sven Baertschi is now drawing praise from his coach. We’re still waiting to hear from Burkie, but I guess someone reminded him he said he’d be quiet, or something.
• Joey MacDonald will be the Flames’ starting goalie tomorrow, and possibly until the end of time.
