Trade Deadline Open Thread

After everything that went down yesterday with Ryane Clowe, Derek Roy and Jaromir Jagr all being moved, deadline day has been quiet so far.

The Flames have already dealt Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester without taking much in the way of salary back in return, and as Jay Feaster declared on Monday night, they’re “open for business.” They’ve acquired two potential first round picks and four prospects, and they do have cash to spend if divesting themselves of an unpalatable contract (cough*Babchuk*cough) means taking back some salary in return.

Miikka Kiprusoff has reportedly spoken with the Toronto Maple Leafs after Feaster granted him permission, which means he’s inevitably working on a deal to send Mikael Backlund, Sven Baertschi and Calgary’s first round pick to Toronto along with Kipper, because that’s the way deals with the Leafs go for the Flames.

Elsewhere, Anton Babchuk and Cory Sarich, who have been scratched repeatedly this season, are again options for a team looking for depth on defence heading into the playoffs, and Alex Tanguay and Mike Cammalleri could also be valuable rental additions.

It depends how much the Flames are willing to reduce the price in order to facilitate a clearance sale. Feaster should be careful to avoid the "everything must go!" mindset and sell off veteran players like Cammalleri and Tanguay for whatever he's offered, because guys like that, especially Cammy, still have value to the team.
