Hey guys! I’m actually gonna try and watch this game! Or at least show up for the GT.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 4:14 PM PST reply actions

dinner’s at 6 and a night of drunkeness (and possibly fighting with oilers fans at my company) will commence

by Justin Azevedo on Jan 21, 2012 4:20 PM PST up reply actions

I will probably have a bit of wine tonight. Animalcrackerhead’s parents have a TON of wine.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 4:21 PM PST up reply actions

No. You don’t understand. They go through like 2 bottles a night. It’s ridiculous.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 4:23 PM PST up reply actions

Good wine too. Last night I had a 5 year old beringer select reserve. Absurd.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 4:33 PM PST up reply actions

nice, we’ve been trying to build up our supply of wine that is aging for future dates..

it’s one of the ways I know I’m getting old…

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:14 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t have the patience or money for wine. I really don’t. Give me fancy beer any day. And cookies. Yummmmmmmmm

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 7:28 PM PST up reply actions

Speaking of which, I just cracked a winter ale. And have butter softening on the counter for cookies. You really should be my neighbour ;)

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 7:36 PM PST up reply actions

winter ale? the Granville island?

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:37 PM PST up reply actions

That’s not hte winter special one right? (they change it every year?)

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:38 PM PST up reply actions

It’s seasonal, but not a limited release. This one.

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 7:41 PM PST up reply actions

I kept wanting to call it lions gate winter ale, but I knew that wasn’t right..

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:42 PM PST up reply actions

It’s pretty yummy. I also loved the raspberry ale they had this year.

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 7:43 PM PST up reply actions

I just had a Tree Cutthroat. Tastey

by Colin S on Jan 21, 2012 7:52 PM PST up reply actions

Keith’s for me tonight

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:53 PM PST up reply actions

I just blew out the tasting notes with a can of Kokanee. Apparently the beer machine needs to clear out some stragglers.

by mike_H on Jan 21, 2012 7:54 PM PST up reply actions

yikes, the beer machine clearly DOES have everything in it.

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:55 PM PST up reply actions

Aww, is Claire going to watch with you? Now is the time to brainwash her ;)

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 6:58 PM PST up reply actions

Haha, no. She’ll probably be asleep or feeding. Give her a couple months at least.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 7:10 PM PST up reply actions

Heh. Well, watching is obviously a loose term. She needs to be able to focus before she can actually watch :)

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 7:11 PM PST up reply actions

you’d be surprised… hockey holds their attention pretty early, white background with moving dark bits… good contrast.

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:15 PM PST up reply actions

Haha, unfortunately she is 5 days old. Don’t think it works for her yet.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 7:16 PM PST up reply actions

btw, congratulations dude… you’re in for a fantastic ride (from someone who is about 2 cars ahead of you on the rollercoaster)

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:19 PM PST up reply actions

Haha thanks. It’s certainly been interesting so far

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 7:21 PM PST up reply actions

ADvice is cheap but I can’t help it.

We got away from swaddling after about the first week, and he was doing ok… and then after a week or so he started waking suddenly and often… couldn’t figure out what to do, one or two nights of very little sleep and we started swaddling again— he slept no problem.

Sample size of one, but if done right, swaddling can help a lot in my view.

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:25 PM PST up reply actions

We’ve had a weird experience with swaddling so far. We kept her swaddled for the first few days but she refuses to be swaddled since. Just hates it. Loves flailing her arms around constantly.

Tonight we’re gonna try to swaddle her lower body and see how that works out.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 7:27 PM PST up reply actions

make sure the swaddle is fairly tight.. if they have any movement in their arms, they work at it and that bothers them. If they can’t really move them, then they will settle… especially with sleeping.. Jonah hated it when he was awake.. but for a consistent (and more than 15 minute sleep) he needed to be either swaddled or on one of our chests (I think us holding him kept his arms from flailing and waking himself up)

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:32 PM PST up reply actions

Also we use that blanket all the time.

by ArikJames on Jan 21, 2012 7:11 PM PST up reply actions

Aw, that’s what Meg said. I’m glad. She is very cute all swaddled up in it.

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 7:12 PM PST up reply actions

Just going to run out for some food, but I’ll be here for the first couple periods. Burlesque show at the Distillery tonight, so I’ll have to bail around 10’ish.

Yeah, his advanced stats have been really impressive, just not getting any bounces. Kent’s had a few good pieces on FlamesNation on it.

Wee…

I wonder what the chances of both Eberle and Hall getting hattricks and Calgary winning are. (I have both in my hockey pool)..

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:21 PM PST reply actions

I’d say the first two are high and the latter low. #negativenancy

I’m gonna say that one of those three things happens.

by SarahM on Jan 21, 2012 7:23 PM PST up reply actions

I’m going to be very pissed at you if none of them happen

by d_p_h on Jan 21, 2012 7:26 PM PST up reply actions

Hey, the Flames have given up three goal leads before. And if the Oilers are going to launch a comeback, I’m thinking they’ll need either Hall or Eberle to come up big. So I’m feeling pretty confident.

Despite all the hype, I do not envy Oiler fans at all in their rebuild. They have no D, no G of note cause Bulin will be gone soon.

I also think they were damn lucky to get RNH because I think Hall may have a ok career but he is not going to be a superstar.

The Oilers could be another Jackets with Nash…

I have no problem with the rebuild, it’s the refusal to make the team better in other areas. This team has needed 2 top 4 defenseman since opening day.

I don’t know that if I was betting on hattricks that Stemps woulda been my pick

always fun to embarass the oil, as I said in a previous GT, since they’ve had so many first over-alls I no longer have sympathy for them..

Neither do I, in fact given the time it takes to develop top rate D they may see Hall / RNH bolting before they can resign them. Much like Jbo did to Florida…

Five points of a possible six is a really excellent road trip for this team. And two more points than I dared to hope they’d escape with.

Next batch of games will be really tough, 4 will be top 10 teams, let’s hope we can keep it rolling

I’ve never expected this team to make the playoffs. I think the most we can hope for is them somehow being a part of the conversation down the stretch and giving us something to cheer for.

Optimism… we’ve got a fairly lopsided home-road schedule that works in our favor and few of the road games are against world beaters. It’s about as good a schedule as one can realistically hope to have.
