UPDATE FROM TWITTER
NHLFlames Calgary FlamesJay Feaster: Ales Kotalik will travel to Calgary & will then be re-assigned to the Abbotsford Heat on Friday. #Flames
According to Bob McKenzie, Acting GM Jay Feaster has placed winger Ales Kotalik on re-entry waivers at noon today, allowing him to be claimed at half salary by the rest of the league.
More after the jump.
I'm trying to reason through this, but absolutely nothing makes sense about it. It's better to have Kotalik off the salary cap books entirely than be stuck with him at 1/2 cost for this season and the next. Worse yet, the possibility that he is being placed on waivers to be recalled to take a roster spot on the Flames. The only light I see this making sense in is someone was injured last night and there's nobody else available to play in the coming week.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see
