Iggy’s Out (Of the All-Star Game)

Published

on

According to NHL Fanhouse, Jarome Iginla will not be playing in the NHL All-Star game this year for family reasons.

It's hard to blame him for choosing to spend that time with family that may be gone soon, but it's still too bad, since he was the Flames' lone representative.

This was the first All-Star game in years that looked mildly entertaining–with the All-Star draft adding plenty of excitement–as well as players like Tobias Enstrom making the game based on their actual abilities rather than pure name recognition for once. Losing our only representative and having him replaced with Danny Briere takes a little bit of the newly added luster away from the game for most Flames fans.

That being said–which Flame would you choose as Iggy’s replacement? Iginla has hardly been an All-Star himself, and the rest of the forward corps is doing as little as possible to distinguish themselves. Rene Bourque? Pedestrian at best. Matt Stajan? Absurd. Olli Jokinen? Just…terrrible.

If I had to pick, I’d take Curtis Glencross, purely based on his level of effort most nights. What about you?
