Heritage Classic Press Conference This Afternoon
The NHL will hold a press conference today at McMahon Stadium at 3PM MT to announce details of the February 20th Heritage Classic. Steve Staios (insert "leadership" joke here), Cory Sarich, and Curtis Glencross of the Flames will be in attendance while Josh Gorges will be representing the Habs. There was speculation that pictures of the logos both teams would use in their uniforms would be made available as of today, and Ken King stated back in June that the jerseys would represent "ties to the history of Calgary long before the Flames were here." Stay tuned for news and updates.

Wow I haven’t been around in a while.
But I’m very interested to see these jerseys. My guess they’ll be Calgary Tiger throwbacks.
I'm CofOranje for the next month.
HUP HOLLAND HUP!
I like it. It’s a little busy with the stripes, but definitely a throwback and definitely on my shopping list. Now I just need tickets…
I understand the history thing and all...
…but they’re pretty ugly. I’d prefer the current throwbacks we have now. What’s wrong with those than trying to make one up?
"Where do you go from here, Dion?" "I go to Toronto."
Spreading that Calgary Flames, Montreal Expos, The U, and Orlando Magic love.
It looks MUCH better on a player than it does in that twitter pic:

Definitely busy, but that was how uniforms were at the time. It is a reasonable facsimile of the original:

I didn’t like it at first blush, but some of the pics I’m seeing led me to a rapid revision of opinion. I’ll definitely be getting one. And this one I’ll be getting without a name or number because that is how it was back in the day.
Also, one of the things I love about this is – assuming the Flames, Herald and Sun do it right – how much the people of this city can be taught about Calgary’s hockey history. It is amazing to me how many people have commented with “I didn’t even know we had a team before the Flames.” There’s 100 years of history in this city before Skalbania put pen to paper and moved the Flames here. It would be nice to see the local media explore that.
I called it this morning in the Icethetics comment section, but man…it still looks like something Ronald McDonald designed. The original Calgary Tigers sweater was black and yellow, for crying out loud. That being said, it is nice that they’re throwing back to the first team to play Montreal in the Cup Final. Calgary has a habit of doing that.
But whatever. I’m more interested in the fact that the Hitmen are playing outside, too. Partially because that’s just a cool thing in and of itself, but most importantly, that may be my in to the whole enchilada. Here’s hoping I don’t pay through the sphincter for it.

After reading that Sun article, I stand corrected on the colours (that’s what had been shown in other colour mockups — maybe they changed at one point). I still say it doesn’t look very good.

Most other images of the Tigers colours had black and yellow, so it was news to me that maroon and yellow were a Tigers colour scheme. I’m not convinced the sun is accurate on that implied statement.
The Hitmen game is interesting to me too. It had better be a nice weekend out, because I’ll be outside a lot. Scheduling the Hitmen against the oldest active junior team in Canada fits the Heritage theme brilliantly. I doubt they’ll do it, but I would love to see them send the Hitmen out in the Calgary Canadians’ 1926 uniforms.
the one thing i DO like about this jersey is that they went with red. it’s the g**d***** C of Red for cryin’ out loud. to produce any jersey for this team in any colour other than the red/crimson/burgundy family would be an outrage.

Why was Steve Staios such a huge part of the Flames presser for this event? Guess he’s going nowhere…
