Congratulations to your 2010 Stanley Cup Champs, the Chicago Blackhawks

PHILADELPHIA - JUNE 09: Jonathan Toews #19 hoists the Stanley Cup after teammate Patrick Kane #88 scored the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 and win the Stanley Cup in Game Six of the 2010 NHL Stanley Cup Final at the Wachovia Center on June 9, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There are few things more spectacular than watching a team celebrate its Stanley Cup victory. Watching each and every Blackhawks player and staff member share the trophy amongst family and friends with big goofy smiles on their faces and their eyes brimming with tears is yet another reminder of why I love this game. Jonathan Toews, the youngest player ever to join the "Triple Gold Club," the inspirational rags-to-riches story of Dustin Byfuglien, and Marian Hossa finally getting his chance to hoist the cup in his third consecutive Finals appearance--these are just a few of the reasons why this cup win, signifying the end of a 49-year drought for the Blackhawks, is so special. Congratulations Chicago, to say you deserve this is an understatement. I can only hope to feel what you're all feeling some day.

With that in mind, October can't come soon enough.

I liked that Toews gave the Cup to Hossa next, just seemed… right.

Agreed

I still don’t like this team though. But considering about everything went wrong for me in sports this year, it’s fitting that the one team I didn’t want to win it all did.

"Where do you go from here, Dion?" "I go to Toronto."
Spreading that Calgary Flames, Montreal Expos, The U, and Orlando Magic love.

Now this marathon of a season is finally over.

And I thinks it fair to say the best team won the cup. F*UK Washington. I’ll stomach the Hawks before the Caps.

I chuckle at the fact that the Blackhawks are at the cap with 14 players signed.

Oh yeah, their Cap situation is a real shitshow. This was their year… no more riding Toews, Kane, and Keith’s ultra-value deals for supreme depth.

Still, you gotta figure that Sharp & Versteeg are the most likely to go and that they’ll garner a 1st round pick or equivalent prospect each (ala the Barker deal with Minn). Find someone else to take Campbell and/or Huet off your hands (Or just bury Huet in the minors) and you’re most of the way out. Sure you lose your awesome depth but you’ll have such a huge amount of ELC talent banked that you’ll probably have it right back in a few years time assuming that you don’t screw the pooch developmentally.

I don’t like Chicago, Kane and Byfuglien are world-class dinks. And their success, while earned by the players, isn’t owned by their management. It’s a shitshow in that front office.

That said I’m glad Hossa won the Cup. He was a bit of a money-hungry dink in his prime too (still is if you tink about it), but a terrific player on the ice.

Agreed. Burish can die in a fire as well.

How is Hossa “money-hungry”? He left millions on the table to come to Edmonton for a chance at a Cup. Even Pittsburgh offered him a better deal than Detroit… he guessed wrong. If he really was “money-hungry”, he’d be playing out his 10 year, $90M deal in eTown.

Same goes for Kovalchuk. People bash him for not taking the $$ in Atlanta… well wouldn’t that have made him “money-hungry”? The fact that he didn’t says otherwise.

Search for some of his comments when he was an RFA in ’05. He was a douche.

There’s also that fat contract of his in Chicago (talking about real dollars here) that is pretty much guaranteed to screw the Hawks over at some point (though obviously if it helped them win the Cup, and I would say it did, then it’s worth it)

by R O on Jun 14, 2010 10:58 AM PDT up reply actions

I like Byfuglien, Keith, Sharp and Toews.

I lost some of my hatred for Kane as well.

by Jeremywilhelm on Jun 10, 2010 12:04 PM PDT reply actions

Terrific news: apparently Toews Schedule B bonuses included the Conn Smythe. That’s an additional $1.3M cap hit for next year for Chicago.

Some of those dumbass contract clauses I’ll never understand.

But that’s just more work for Stan Bowman I guess haha.

Good. For a second there I thought the Earth’s core had stopped. (I cannot believe I wasted part of my life on that piece of excrement they called a movie.)
