"Last season was not much to write home about, and this lack of success motivates me. One wants to show one’s worth it."

"The Sutter brothers, people with a lot of credibility around the NHL, wanted me there. But the team began coming together by about the middle of the season only. We weren’t playing bad hockey, in fact, we were fighting for the playoffs until the final rounds. It didn’t work out, and everybody’s hoping next season will be better. I mean, we’ve got a great team. The goalie is outstanding, the defence and the forwards aren’t too shabby, either. I just hope I’ll get enough chance to show my stuff and contribute."

"First and foremost, I will do my utmost to show the Calgarians I still have got what it takes, and then? We’ll see. I’m beginning to feel homesick a bit. It may very well happen that, once I’m done in Calgary, I’ll seriously consider coming home. Not only for professional reasons, personal reasons, also."

not much to write home about

HAHA NO SHIT
Ales, if you can score 25 goals, I may like you. Otherwise, feel free to head back to your homeland before the season starts.

Score 20 goals and 20 assists, throw some hits with your 220 frame. And I will be happy.

I think he’s got heart, but that shooting percentage bit that Behind The Net did on positioning indicates that his “hockey sense” might be holding him back in a lot of ways.

Now that Kotalik says it, I feel that much better about the whole thing.

I love the whole homesick thing there at the end. Already preparing your excuse there Ales for when you start sucking it up in October?

Maybe if he has another miserable year in CGY, he’ll eschew the final year of his contract and head home? Wouldn’t that be grand?

personally, i’ll file this as another “what the eff is the dude SUPPOSED TO SAY ???” quote. think about it. is he gonna say “i didn’t want to waive my NTC to calgary, but they were the only team in the league to want my shitty contract, and i wanted to play some hockey…. but my plan for the next two years is to remain as mediocre as possible” ?? obviously, no. is he gonna say “there’s a lot of problems in the dressing room but we won a few games anyways” ??? obviously, no.

to me, the most interesting sentence in this quote is, “I just hope I’ll get enough chance to show my stuff and contribute.” because it sortof insinuates that he won’t.

I’m glad he said it and admitted he needs to do much much better.

I can get my hopes up about him.

Team didnt come together until mid season...

I get on Sutter a lot, and I will again. For a guy (or guys when you include Brent) who have neem through the wars and are supposed to know and appreciate the importance of intangibles like not wanting to kill your teammates, I don’t know why he or they allowed the locker room to corrode as bad as it did.

It only took them half a season to fix it? Finger on the button, there, boys.
